Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery

MOUNT PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY
Buncombe County, NC
other names are KELLY/FOSTER CEMETERY
DIRECTIONS: From Candler, NC take Pisgah Highway South (Rt 151) about 5 miles until it passes by Upper Glady Fork Road.  The very next left will be Mt. Pisgah Church Road.  Take that  (about 1/10 mile) to the church and the cemetery is by the parking lot.
LATITUDE/LONGITUDE: 352911N 0824413W (Per USGS 7.5′ map DUNSMORE MTN)
FIELD NOTES: 12/12/99: The survey of this cemetary is only the older section at the crest of the hill.  The cemetary is laid out generally along a W/E pattern and is not square.  The grounds are kept in good condition and prerequisites to even having a grave there are a 6″ collar of cement around the grave marker, and limits on the number of fake flowers and memorabilia surrounding the site.  I began the survey in the NW corner.

Note Spelling Difference]

RESEARCHER’S ADDENDUM
FORMAT:  Each entry begins with its number in brackets followed by any memorium (if present) which preceeds the name.  The next line, in upper-case, will be the complete name followed by the birth date, a dash (-), and the death date.  The scriptum or any additional visible material follows, including that which might appear on some other portion of the marker or even on the footstone.  Any surveyor’s comments will appear in brackets and usually at the end.
If there is any portion of the transcribed material that is in question, it will be in parenthesis ending with a question mark.  For instance “Jan 2(3?), 1887” indicates that only the “3” portion of the date is in question.  It follows that the date is somewhere between Jan 20 and Jan 29 of 1887.  If data is in conflict, it will attempted to be resolved in the surveyor’s comment section.  For instance name spelling variations and impossible dates, etc.
If more than one person is represented by a marker, then following the first person’s information, the 2nd, 3rd, etc. person’s memorium and name begins the next part.  The only time there should be a blank line is between grave markers, not individuals.
Where the word (calculate) appears for a date, the date, or a portion, can be figured from wording on the stone, but it is in the interest of faithful transcription that this information is not provided.
