JOHN MERRILL – Born 1757 in New Jersey … enlisted in 1778 in Guilford County, NC under Captain Enoch Davis, General Rutherford, etc., and was in the battles of Briar Creek and against the Tories and Indians, etc., and was wounded in the head.
In 1853 he was living in Buncombe County, NC. He was a brother of Benjamin Merrill (above).
