May Webinar “Discovering My Paternal Family Using DNA Tools” Presenter: Diana Norton
May 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pmFree
We are pleased to be able to provide webinars for our regularly scheduled programs this year. We are still under restrictions about the number of people allowed to gather in our meeting space so a webinar is a suitable alternative.
This meeting will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm. This will be a virtual meeting, using Zoom software and restricted to the first 100 attendees. The program will be a live webinar, so the presenter will be available to answer questions. Below you will find the details on the webinar:
“Discovering My Paternal Family Using DNA Tools” Presented by Diana Norton, OBCGS Volunteer, Researcher and DNA Working Group Leader.
Three years ago, presenter Diana Norton realized that she did not have the same father as her sisters. This led her on a quest to find out who he was and who his family is/was. She will include the use of AncestryDNA ThruLines™ and some of the connections she has found. Join us to learn how DNA matches helped her discover new family connections and the tools she used to aid her in this quest.
Presenter: Diana Norton, leader of OBCGS DNA Working Group, joined the Society about 10 years ago after attending a class taught by another OBCGS member. In 2017 she learned that her level of DNA matching to her sisters was “half-sibling,” rather than full… and that’s where the journey began to discover her paternal relatives. With degrees in math, physics and engineering, she worked at Bell Laboratories in Illinois before moving to Asheville in 2004 to join her younger daughter.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED but there is no charge to attend. The webinar will be presented virtually using Zoom Webinar software. You must register for the meeting before the program starts on Saturday so you can receive the link for the program. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
