April Webinar “What Happened to the Children?” Presenter: Linda Brown
April 24 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pmFree
We are pleased to be able to provide webinars for our regularly scheduled programs this year. We are still under restrictions about the number of people allowed to gather in our meeting space so a webinar is a suitable alternative.
This meeting will be held on Saturday, April 24 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm. This will be a virtual meeting, using Zoom software and restricted to the first 100 attendees. The program will be a live webinar, so the presenter will be available to answer questions. Below you will find the details on the webinar:
“What Happened to the Children?” Presented by Linda Brown, OBCGS Author, Researcher and Volunteer.
What harder “brick walls” exist than when the family unit you are researching vanishes? You find that the parents have probably died. But what happened to the children?! What about the “brick wall” you face when names of parents are lacking? Apprentice indentures and bastardy bonds are little-known records that may provide clues.
Join us to learn about these legal documents, their history and where to find them. Besides finding names, these records provide information about the social and moral history of the time, a community’s occupations and the protection, preparation and exploitation that children experienced.
Presenter: Asheville native Linda Brown is a graduate of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and Montreat College. She is retired from Buncombe County Tax Department and has served as chairperson of the Abandoned Cemetery Committee. She began volunteering with OBCGS in 2015 and is about to publish her first book on local genealogy.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED but there is no charge to attend. The webinar will be presented virtually using Zoom Webinar software. You must register for the meeting before the program starts on Saturday so you can receive the link for the program. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
