Major, will discuss the 828 Digital Archives for Historical Equity and some of the ongoing 828
Digital Archive projects. The 828 Digital Archives is an initiative that centers the voices of
historically excluded individuals in the region to build a more comprehensive history of Western
North Carolina.
Ms. Thomas will discuss the OBCGS searchable database, Enslaved Persons in Buncombe
County, 1794 -1868, that has been completed and launched for public use. The purpose of this database is to assist genealogists in finding their previously enslaved ancestors in Buncombe County.
