Our Society’s main goal is to acquaint the public about genealogical materials primarily from Western North Carolina. To accomplish that, we publish many books, a quarterly journal and online information about our local history and genealogy. We have been in the publishing business since 1981 and our list of books has grown over the decades. We have an online bookstore on eBay, sell our books in our bricks-and-mortar library in Asheville, NC and provide a catalog so you can order books directly through the mail.

We accept donations of used books and remove books from our shelves on a regular basis offering them for sale as surplus books in our eBay store. Visit our library to look at the books in person and purchase them there with cash or credit card.
Publishing Guidelines for Printing and Production With OBCGS
We continue to publish our own books and those from other authors when the topic fits our mission. Several Guidelines are available that are designed to help an author develop their book and get it ready for printing:
Writing Your Family History – outlines parts of a book and gives helpful definitions so the author understands what they need to include to help the reader use their book.
Printing Guidelines for Authors – designed to help authors understand our printing format when considering publishing with us.
