Daniel Welch who was born 1795 in Ireland, came to America at the age of
9 months. It is believed they settled in Yorktown, Virginia, where
he married Ruth Williams in 1823, b. 1805. They raised their family
in Buncombe Co.

Richard Pinkney Welch, b. 5-18-1856, Waynesville, NC; d. 1-9-1924, Candler,
NC. Married 9-14-1874 Letha Rice, b. 4-4-1856, Buncombe Co; d. 12-26-1945,
Buncombe Co. They raised 11 children in the Luther area of Buncombe
Co. Richard Pinkney Welch owned a corn meal [sic] at Luther.
They were buried at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. There are descendants
of this family throughout Buncombe Co, NC.
