WOOD/ WOODS MORRIS EARP |
Dec 30, 2002 Doing research on family name and I have narrowed research to Buncombe County and Orange County, NC on WOOD/ WOODS. Seeking more information on James WOOD of Buncombe county who had sons named Henry, James, John, Jonathan and William. If you can contribute please contact me. My gggg grandfather was William WOOD/S and in accordance to the Bedford County, TN 1850 census record was born in NC in 1786. His wife in 1850 was Racheal and William's son James was born in TN in 1807. James may have had a sister named Martha "Mary" WOODS. My research shows that the two most likely areas in NC are Buncombe county or Orange County and that I may be related to James WOOD (son of John WOOD) of Buncombe County or to Joseph, Dempsey or John WOODS of Orange county. Children of James were Hardy, Jane,Mitchell, John, Nancy, Eliza, Albert and Josiah. Wives were Jane MORRIS / Anna EARP. Michael Woods |

MILLER ELY MIMS DOWNER COURTNEY |
Dec 28, 2002 I am looking for the parents of my gggg grandfather John C. MILLER who married Mary ELY, daughter of Samuel ELY and Mary MIMS. We know that John was born in 1810 and that his mother is Elizabeth DOWNER MILLER but we hit a brick wall with who Elizabeth was married to. We know that our ?? died somewhere between 1840 and 1858 because somewhere in this time frame Elizabeth becomes the head of household. We also know that our Elizabeth and ?? had five children. They were : John C. MILLER born 1810, Catherine MILLER boron about 1814, William Thomas MILLER born about 1815, Samuel H. MILLER born 1819, Arabella MILLER born 1826 and married Marmaduke COURTNEY. Surely there are several more children because of the gap in children between Samuel and Arabella. We were wondering if they had several children die young or something. We know that our ?? MILLER died in Anson County North Carolina but we are frantically trying to find where he might have been before that. We don't know if he lived here for quite a while or if he came over to America with brothers or what. We find lots of MILLERs but this one is just escaping us. Please help. Any info would be appreciated. Kari Brantley |

JONES MATTHEWS SMITH |
July 26, 2002 JONES, MATTHEWS I am searching for information on my mother's family. My grandmother (Susie Eller MATTHEWS JONES) was born on December 28, 1905 to Dave and Ellen MATTHEWS (Ellen's maiden name was SMITH) who purchased a large tract of land in Asheville (I believe the deed to possibly be in my great grandmother's name Ellen and the misspelled last name MATHIS.) Dave and Ellen had approximately (exact number - and some names - unknown) 12+ children. I believe upon Dave's death the tract of land was divided into 12? equal portions of 1 acre each (so the original acreage had to have been at least 12 acres - I think) The land was sold in 1965 to the State of North Carolina for the development of Highway 74 (I believe) but the project wasn't completed until after 1968 because my grandmother was not available to sell her land. I also believe the 12+ children had quite large families of their own. one sister named Daisy married a man named Homer JONES (they lived in Asheville along with their 12+ children, each of whom had a special nickname given to them by their father.) I believe Homer to have died in or around 1972 and Daisy around 1975 - both were in their late 70's or early 80's at the time of their passing, and both were buried at the Gashes Creek Cemetery in Fairview. Any information is greatly appreciated. Other sibling names I do remember hearing Algae & Clarence. Any help greatly appreciated. Lisa Tice |
