CUNNINGHAM ALEXANDER DAVIDSON PATTERSON HOLMES CRAIG MONTGOMERY HENDERSON ARMSTRONG ATKINSON |
November 9, 2001 Subject: John Cunningham, Buncombe and Haywood Co., NC, prior to 1822. Surnames: CUNNINGHAM, ALEXANDER, DAVIDSON, PATTERSON, HOLMES, CRAIG, MONTGOMERY, HENDERSON. Am looking for any possible assistance in finding the ancestry and origin of a John CUNNINGHAM that arrived in Marion Co., TN in ca. 1822 from points unknown. There is excellent circumstantial evidence that this John CUNNINGHAM might be the same individual as another John CUNNINGHAM found in Buncombe and Haywood Co., NC prior to 1822. The John CUNNINGHAM of Buncombe and Haywood Co., NC had direct connections to families named ALEXANDER and DAVIDSON. His father, John CUNNINGHAM, died prior to his birth that was 8 July 1783. His mother, Ann (ALEXANDER) CUNNINGHAM then married William PATTERSON, then James HOLMES, and finally James CRAIG. She out lived each of her four husbands. During these marriages, she lived first lived in SC, then various places in NC including the Buncombe and Haywood Co. area. She later moved to middle TN, northern AL, and finally western TN. Besides her son named John CUNNINGHAM, she had several children by her second husband, and one by her third husband. These other children were: Rachel (PATTERSON) MONTGOMERY, Elizabeth (PATTERSON) ARMSTRONG, Arthur PATTERSON, Josiah PATTERSON, and Sophronia (HOLMES) ATKINSON. The John CUNNINGHAM of Marion Co., TN and the individual by the same name of Buncombe and Haywood co., NC have families whose demographics are virtually an identical match. Would greatly appreciate the opportunity to exchange information with anyone having information on the John CUNNINGHAM who lived in the Buncombe and Haywood Co., NC prior to ca. 1822. Am especially interested where that John CUNNINGHAM and his family might have moved after leaving NC. Herb Cunningham |
