ADAM PHILLIPS – Born 1763. Enlisted 1781 at Bates Ford, Rowan County, NC under Capt. Simmons, Col. Francis Locke, etc., and was in the battles of Cowans Ford, Beatties’ Ford, and in skirmishes against the Tories. He died in 1858 in Buncombe Co., NC and is buried at Bethesda Methodist Church Cemetery. He was among Rejected and Suspended Pensioners of Buncombe County. Among descendants were McIntyre, Bell, and Russell families.
