Harry K. Taylor

Asheville – Harry K. Taylor, 83, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Valor Hospice of Charles George VA Medical Center.

A native and life-long resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James and Bess Watts Taylor.

Harry served in the US Army 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans-Zebulon Baird Vance Camp #15, and the Leicester VFW Post # 891. He was retired from both the National Linen Service and Swannanoa Cleaners.

He is survived by a daughter, Bev Taylor of Asheville; two step-daughters, Jennifer Wallace and her husband, Brian and Heather Shuford and her companion, Doug, all of Asheville; two sons, David Taylor and his wife, Tracy, of Greensboro, NC and Jeff Taylor and his wife Amanda, of Asheville; Harry’s companion for the past 18 years, Bessie Love “BL” Shuford of Asheville; a sister, Hilda Ingle of Skyland; ten grandchildren, Nick, Ashley, Zachary, Shelby, Lauren and her husband Andrew, Morgan, Samantha, Nathan, Briar and Baley; one great-grandchild, Levi as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Don Medlin for his friendship of over 63 years to Harry.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veteran’s Council.

The family graciously asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Valor Hospice of Charles George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or to the Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society, 128 Bingham Road, Suite 950, Asheville, NC 28806, or your local Cancer Society .
