The Family History Center - Charlotte, NC
The Family History Center of Charlotte located at 2500 Rocky River Road, (phone 704 509-6407), is a branch of the Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since it's beginnings in 1894, the Family History Library has become the largest Genealogy Library in the world. Most of their records have been acquired through an extensive microfilming program that began in 1938. Their microfilmers are given permission to film in countries, states, churches, archives from all over the world. The records are then preserved in mountain vaults at Salt Lake City, Utah. Copies of requested films or fiche are then sent to the Family History Centers for patron use. The volunteers in the center can help you order and use the main Library's records, they can't do research for you, but they help you do your own searching. The librarians on duty can give an orientation of the room. They will offer help in the basic steps to get you started and can answer most of your questions.

Available records at the Charlotte Family History Center:
The Catalog: The catalog describes the holdings of the main library's records. It is the key to your research. Use the catalog to learn what records are available for the locality that you are searching. You will need to know what film or fiche number to order, to help you in your search. There is a small fee to order the record.
